Privacy Policy
Last Updated: August 25, 2026
FatigueSense is a research-focused application that helps participants contribute fatigue-related questionnaire responses, wearable-linked signals, and related insights. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it when you use our services, mobile application, and website.
Research Purpose and Scope
FatigueSense is designed for research activities, including participant onboarding, questionnaire collection, wearable data integration, and analysis of participant-reported fatigue information over time. We limit data use to research operations, participant support, platform reliability, and improvement of the FatigueSense service.
Information We Collect
We collect information that you provide directly to us when you register, complete questionnaires, or communicate with us. This may include your name, contact details, fatigue ratings, symptom check-ins, study responses, and other participant-provided research information.
We may also collect technical and usage information needed to operate the service, such as device type, operating system, app activity logs, and service diagnostics.
If you connect supported wearables, we may collect authorized wearable metrics made available through those integrations to support research insights and app features.
Health Data (Apple Health / HealthKit and Health Connect)
With your explicit permission, FatigueSense reads health and fitness data from Apple Health (HealthKit) on iOS and from Health Connect on Android. We only request read access. FatigueSense never writes, modifies or deletes data in Apple Health or Health Connect.
Depending on which permissions you grant and which device you use, the categories we may read are:
- Activity: steps, distance walked or run, wheelchair distance and pushes, flights climbed, exercise minutes, workouts
- Heart: heart rate, resting heart rate, heart rate variability
- Sleep: sleep analysis (time asleep, in bed, and sleep stages where available)
- Energy: active energy burned and basal energy burned
- Vitals: blood oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, body temperature, blood pressure
- Body measurements: weight, height, body mass index, body fat percentage
- Other: water intake and mindful minutes
We use this health data for one purpose: to provide the features you use inside the app. It is used to estimate your daily energy capacity, to show your activity, heart rate, sleep and recovery trends back to you, to power pacing guidance and post-exertional symptom risk estimates, and, where you have separately consented, to contribute to anonymised research into chronic fatigue conditions.
We never use health data obtained through HealthKit or Health Connect for advertising, marketing, or advertising-based data mining. We never sell health data. We never disclose it to data brokers, insurers, employers, or advertising networks. We do not share identifiable health data with any third party except the infrastructure providers who host and secure the service on our behalf under contract, or where we are required to do so by law, or where you have explicitly asked us to (for example, when you export a report to share with your own clinician).
Health data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored encrypted at rest. Access is restricted to the small number of personnel who need it to operate and support the service.
You are in control. You can withdraw health permissions at any time in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security, Health, FatigueSense, or in the Health Connect settings on Android, and FatigueSense will stop reading new data immediately. You can disconnect a wearable at any time from the app. To have the health data we already hold deleted, delete your account in the app or email info@fatiguesense.com from the address on your account, and we will delete your account and the health data associated with it. Anonymised data that can no longer be linked back to you may be retained for research.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve our services, including to:
- Run and support research workflows and questionnaire programs
- Analyze fatigue-related responses and wearable trends for research insights
- Generate fatigue pattern summaries and optional assistive forecasts
- Communicate with participants about studies and app operations
- Maintain security, reliability, and performance of our systems
- Improve existing features and develop new research-related capabilities
Fatigue Data and Research Insights
The core purpose of FatigueSense is to help participants and researchers observe how fatigue may change across days by combining check-ins, questionnaires, and available wearable signals. Insights are designed to support reflection and research analysis.
Use of Anonymised Data for Research
FatigueSense exists to improve the understanding and day-to-day management of chronic fatigue conditions. To do that, we may use anonymised data from the app for research, including analysis that is published in scientific journals, presented at conferences, or shared with academic and clinical collaborators.
Anonymised means that your name, email address, and any other information that identifies you directly are removed before the data is used in this way. What remains are measurements and responses, for example wearable readings, pacing figures, symptom ratings and questionnaire answers, together with broad characteristics such as age group, condition and country. Anonymised data is not labelled with your identity and is not intended or attempted to be traced back to you. Published results describe patterns across groups of participants, never an individual.
Anonymised research data is never sold, and is never used for advertising, marketing, profiling, credit, insurance or employment decisions. It is not shared with data brokers. Where it is shared with an academic or clinical collaborator, that sharing is for a defined research purpose under a written agreement that prohibits any attempt at re-identification.
You can opt out of the use of your anonymised data for research at any time, without giving a reason and without losing access to any feature of the app. Email info@fatiguesense.com and we will exclude your data from future research use. Please note that where anonymised data has already been included in a completed analysis or a published result, it cannot be withdrawn from that publication, because it can no longer be identified as yours. Deleting your account removes your identifiable data as described elsewhere in this policy.
Data Sharing and Sale of Data
We do not sell your personal data. We also do not share participant research data with third parties for advertising, profiling, or commercial resale.
Where service providers are used for essential infrastructure (for example, secure hosting or transactional communications), they are contractually limited to supporting FatigueSense operations and are not permitted to use participant data for their own purposes.
External AI and Model Training Restrictions
FatigueSense does not provide participant data to external AI providers or third-party model training platforms. Participant data is not used to train publicly available AI models, and it is not shared with external AI services for independent processing.
Any model-based outputs shown in FatigueSense are optional and assistive. They are intended for reflection and research use, and are not a medical diagnosis or treatment.
Data Security
We implement administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and loss. Sensitive data is protected in transit and at rest using industry-standard controls.
Garmin API Data and External AI Services
Data obtained through the Garmin Connect Developer Program API is not shared with, processed by, or otherwise made available to any third party. This includes external AI providers, third-party machine learning services, and external data processing platforms.
Garmin API data is processed only within FatigueSense-controlled systems for the purpose of supporting research functionality and participant experience.
Participant Rights and Choices
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights regarding access, correction, deletion, or restriction of your personal information. To submit a request, contact us using the email below.
